What is liposuction? Liposuction is a type of cosmetic surgery. It involves the removal of excess or unwanted fat from the body. Typical areas for plastic surgery include the abdomen, love handles, thighs, saddlebags, chin, and upper arms. Liposuction is not a substitute for weight loss and exercise. The best results are obtained through a combined approach of a healthy diet and a sound exercise plan. Talk to Dr. Yang if you are interested in developing a multifaceted plan to remove the weight and keep it off.

How is the liposuction surgery performed? What are the risks?

source The liposuction procedure is performed at a fully licensed and accredited outpatient surgery center. The procedure takes approximately 1–2 hours to perform. A typical liposuction procedure is done under general anesthesia. The fat is first injected with a dilute form of lidocaine called tumescent solution. Then, using a PAL device (power assisted liposuction device), the fat is carefully removed under suction. Most patients will experience some swelling and bruising, at first. Most patients take one to two weeks off of work to recover. They take more time off if the work requirements are strenuous. A consultation with Dr. Yang at our Maryland or Virginia locations will help answer any questions you may have. The most common liposuction surgery technique results are demonstrated in the images here.
