Laser Resurfacing

What is laser resurfacing?

The laser resurfacing surgery procedure helps to rejuvenate and tighten the skin while reducing facial wrinkles and fine lines. As a result, the skin of the face will look smoother and softer.

How is the laser resurfacing procedure performed?

The laser resurfacing procedure is performed in a fully licensed and certified outpatient surgery center. This cosmetic surgical procedure is typically done under general anesthesia. The procedure takes one hour. The face is treated with a laser that removes the outer surface layer of skin and tightens the deep layer to improve wrinkles. The skin takes about a week to heal after the laser resurfacing surgery. During the first week, it is common for some blistering and scabs to form. These will heal, however. Most patients take one to two weeks off of work to recover from the procedure. They should take more time off work if the job is strenuous.

What are the risks of laser resurfacing surgery?

Like all types of surgery, it is impossible to eliminate risks altogether. Bleeding, infection, asymmetry, hardness in the scar tissue, or skin loss are all known complications. Using careful technique and expertise, Dr. Yang strives to minimize all surgical risks.
